Abstract

PURPOSE: To achieve continuous operation by preventing leak of electricity effectively while improving the efficiency of dust collection, by electrostatically collecting soot, etc., in waste gas passing through a flue into a dust collection room and then burning it by an ignition device.
CONSTITUTION: Waste gas discharged from an internal combustion engine is guided to a flue 4 through an inflow pipe 12 and while a center electrode 3 is reduced to a negative one, a static voltage is appied between many rod-shaped electrode members 31 on the surface of the electrode 3 and the internal wall surface of an external cylinder 1 as a counter electorde. Then, soot, etc., contained in the exhaust gas is electrified by corona discharge between the electrodes to be attracted to the counter electrode, and then enters a dust collection room 5 by way of the holes 22 of a ceramic pipe 2 which forms a circumferential side of the flue 4 to stick the internal wall surface of the external cylinder 1. Gas removed from the soot, etc., is discharged out through an outflow pipe 14 and the soot, etc., collected in the dust collection room 5 is burnt by being ignited intermittently by an ignition device 6.
