Abstract
PURPOSE:To generate a swirl in an internal combustion engine which comprises some suction passages of a primary suction passage for low loads, a secondary suction passage for high loads and an auxiliary suction passage, by orienting those respective outflow openings in the circumferential direction of a combustion chamber. CONSTITUTION:In a low or intermediate range of engine loads, a primary throttle valve 14 is opened to a relatively slight extent and a flow speed of a mixture sucked into a combustion chamber 2 is thereby low. An inflow opening 20i of an auxiliary suction passage 20 is disposed at an upstream side of the throttle valve 14, so that a suction air from a nozzle type outflow opening 20p is much accelerated. The opening 20p is oriented in the circumferential direction of the combustion chamber 2, generating an intensified suction swirl. If the suction air flows back through a secondary suction passage 16 to cause a secondary leak into other secondary passage 16B, the flow speed will not be damped due to the shape of the secondary suction passage 16 of a small-diameter 16. In addition, because the suction air rushes into the combustion chamber at nearly right angle to it, an intensive suction swirl may be produced.
