Abstract
PURPOSE: To raise the limit of lean mixture combustion by providing an auxiliary intake channel separate from a main intake channel that is opened and closed by an intake valve and limiting the opening direction of the outlet end of the auxiliary intake channel to a special direction in order to develop a powerful swirl.
CONSTITUTION: A mixture gas that is formed in a carburetor is supplied to the combustion chamber 4 from a main intake channel 5 through an intake valve 10, and the gas is injected from an auxiliary intake channel 22 of which the inlet end opens in the air channel of the carburetor through an injection nozzle 22a at the outlet end of the auxiliary intake channel 22. This gas injection develops a swirl in the combustion chamber 4 during the intake stroke. In such an internal combustion engine, the aimed direction of the outlet end of the auxiliary intake channel 22, namely the injection nozzle 22a is set up in the range of angle of ±20°CW110° to the connecting line L that passes the center 1 of the portion of the intake port 6 that opens in the combustion chamber 4 of the intake port 6 on the plane P that perpendicularly intersects the axial center O of a cylinder 1.
