Abstract

PURPOSE: To provide an improved limit of combustion of a lean mixture for an internal combustion engine which has main and auxiliary suction passages by properly changing the opening position and direction at the end of each suction passage to a combustion chamber, thereby generating a more intensified swirl.
CONSTITUTION: A main suction passage 5 is a continuous path which consists of a suction port 6 formed inside a cylinder head 2, a suction manifold 7, a two- barrel carburetor 8 and an air cleaner 9. Said suction port 6 is a so-called eccentric swirl port which is oriented toward a combustion chamber 4 so as to swirl a suction air about an axis of a cylinder 1. On the other hand, the auxiliary suction passage 22 consists of an injection nozzle pipe 22a and passages 22bW22e, having a nozzle of a contracted open end of the pipe 22a. The nozzle opens just above a suction valve 10 and is disposed in such a manner that its swirl is guided in the same direction as the swirl generated by the suction port 6.
