PURPOSE:To reduce the capacity of the oil tank of a lubrication system for a steam turbine, by recovering a part of oil to be returned to the oil tank, by the bolume between the normal and maximum allowable oil levels in an oil cleaner when the turbine is stopped. CONSTITUTION:A line 18 for conducting oil from an oil tank 1 to an oil cleaner 15 is provided with a by-pass 29. A solenoid valve 25 and a control valve 26 are provided in the by-pass 29. The solenoid valve 25 is fully opened by a turbine stop signal 27. The cleaner 15 is equipped with oil gauges 24, 20 to detect the normal and maximum allowable oil levels. When the oil has increased over the nomal level, that is detected by the oil gauge 24 to entirely close a control valve 19. When the maximum oil level is detected by the oil gauge 20, the control valve 26 is entirely closed.
