Abstract

PURPOSE: To prevent tripping due to a drop in the suction pressure of a water pump for driving the control rod at a scram by means of an automatic valve which acts in response to the scram signal mounted to a filling water piping to an accumulated in the hydraulic apparatus for driving the control rod.
CONSTITUTION: When a scram signal is fed from the system of protecting the nuclear reactor, a scram inlet valve 27 and a scram outlet valve 28 are opened. With the outlet valve opened, the top of the piston 11 is opened to the air. With the scram inlet valve 27 open, a high pressure of an accumulator works on the under surface of the piston 11. Therefore, due to a high differential pressure in the pressure water of a control rod driving mechanism between the inlet and outlet, the control rod rises to perform a scram. Simultaneously with the inputting of the scram signal, air works so that an air actuated valve 30 is opened slowly. In this manner, a rapid increase can be checked in the delivery flow rate of a control rod driving water pump 21. Accordingly, no rapid change occurs in the suction pressure of the pump 21.
