Abstract

PURPOSE:To separate and recover the iron contents contained in high basic molten slag by adding new molten iron and a slag modifier to the high basicity molten slag formed in preliminary dephosphorization reaction of molten iron. CONSTITUTION:Molten iron is dephosphorized with a dephosphorizer consisting of iron oxide, CaO, CaF2, etc. and is fed to a steel making installation such as converter. The molten slag of dephosphorization produced at this time has basicity as high as 3-5, and has high viscosity; therefore a large amt. of granular iron is contained therein. This molten slag is separated into a ladle, and new molten iron and a slag modifier such as mill scale are added thereto. The added molten iron is desiliconized to form SiO2, whereby the basicity of the high basic molten slag is lowered, the viscosity of the molten slag is lowered, and the granular iron contained therein is settled and separated, thus it is recovered into the molten iron. After the removal of this molten slag, the desiliconized molten iron is dephosphorized, and is fed to the converter. The molten slag of dephosphorization is subjected to the above-mentioned treatment, whereby the iron contents therein are recovered.
