PURPOSE:To prevent misdetection of an object to be detected during an application of power source and the like, by keeping the output of a level discriminating circuit under the state in which the object to be detected is not detected by a photdetector in case the output value of power source is not normal. CONSTITUTION:When the power souce is applied, a constant voltage diode 16 of a power source output detecting circuit 15 is off with transistors TR4 and 5 turned on, respectively. Thus the power source output voltage is applied to the input 12 of a comparator 10, and the level of discrimination increases as the time elapses. At the same time, the output of an integral netword 8 which is applied to the input 11 of the comparator 10 is always lower than the level equal to the power source output voltage of a line 14. Thus the output given from the comparator 10 is kept in the state under which an object 3 is not detected by a photodetector 4.
