Abstract

PURPOSE:To enable a main circuit element to be certainly protected from excess current even in a regenerative state, by setting a reverse-directional current detecting level to be lower than a forward-directional current detecting level, and by detecting the excess current flowing to the main circuit element. CONSTITUTION:Current flowing through a main circuit switching element is detected by a current transformer 7, and the input to an excess current detecting circuit 8 is provided. So far as the excess current detecting circuit 8 is concerned, the excess current state of forward-directional current is discriminated by a positive pole voltage detecting circuit 14, and the excess current state of reverse-directional current is discriminated by a negative pole voltage detecting circuit 13. In its case, the excess current detecting level of the reverse current is contrived to be set to be lower than the excess current detecting level of the forward current. As a result, even if the excess current resistance degree of the main circuit switching element is lowered at the time of a regenerative state, the element can be certainly protected from being damaged due to excess current.
