Abstract

PURPOSE:In a water pump where the pump shaft is supported by the bearing section of the pump housing, to prevent the flow-out of the bearing grease by forming a cooling water path extending from the pump chamber to the pulley side at the bearing section and cooling the bearing with the cooling water. CONSTITUTION:A water pump 2 is located at the outside of a timing chain case, for example, and a pump chamber 8 and a bearing section 12 are formed in the pump housing 5 secured in said case 1. A pump-up impeller 16 is fixed to the inner end of a pump shaft 13 in the pump chamber 8 while an engine cooling fan 17 and a pulley 19 for V-belt 18 are fixed to the outer end section. Here a cooling water path 24 extending from the pump chamber 8 to the pulley side 19 is formed along the entire length of the bearing section 12, to enable the flow-in and flow-out of the cooling water against the pump chamber 8. Consequently the bearings 9, 10 cam be made coolable continuously from the bearing section 12 and the temperature rise can be suppressed to prevent the flow-out of the grease.
