PURPOSE:To obtain a unidirectional silicon steel plate of superior magnetic characteristics by rolling a steel slab of specified contents of C and Si under the conditions specifying the relations between hot rolling temps., drafts and inter-stand transfer time. CONSTITUTION:A steel slab contg. 2-4.5% Si, 0.030-0.060% C, etc., is heated and after its temp. attains 1,000 deg.C or below, it is hot-rolled in >=2 stands at least 70% draft, whereby it is finished to a hot-rolled steel strip of 1.5-4.0mm. thicknesses. At this time, the continuous rolling is accomplished by satisfying the conditions of the equation wherein the time until the slab shifts from a certain stand to the next stand is defined at t sec, the hot rolling temp. of each stand as t deg.C and the draft of hot rolling as R%. Also, the cooling of the slab during hot rolling is intensified to keep the finish temp. of the hot rolling at 850 deg.C or below. By this rolling method, the Goss strength of the surfaces of the hot rolled plate is improved, and the unidirectional silicon steel plate of improved electromagnetic characteristics is obtained.
