Abstract

PURPOSE: To prepare the titled compound useful as pharmaceuticals, pesticides, perfumes, or their intermediates, easily, in high yield, by reacting α-chloro-α- thio-propionic acid ester with an aromatic compound in the presence of a Lewis acid.
CONSTITUTION: The objective compound of formula II (R1 is alkyl, phenyl or benzothiazolyl; R2 is alkyl; Ar is aromatic substituent group) is prepared by reacting an α-chloro-α-thiopropionic acid ester of formulaIwith an aromatic compound of formula ArH in the presence of a Lewis acid (e.g. stannic chloride, titanium tetrachloride, zinc bromide, ferric chloride, etc.) in a solvent such as carbon tetrachloride, methylene chloride, nitromethane, etc. at -10W+50°C, pref. 0W35°C.
