Abstract

PURPOSE:To obtain adequate images free from any photographic fog and degradation in density without dependency upon the states of a photoreceptor by determining exposure in accordance with the surface potential of the photoreceptor, and determining and applying DC bias voltage in accordance with the surface potential of the photoreceptor after this exposure. CONSTITUTION:Prior to image recording, a blank exposure lamp 6 is turned on and off and the potential in the dark parts and bright part is detected with a surface potential sensor 7. The measured value is converted from analog to digital and is processed with a microcomputer, whereby correct electrostatic charging quantity is controlled. Following to this, the potential in the bright part is measured with the sensor 7 after exposure of a photosensitive drum by using a standard white plate, and is processed with the microcomputer in the same manner as mentioned above, whereby exposure is controlled. This exposure control is repeated thrice, and the determined correct exposure is irradiated to the photosensitive drum, thence the surface potential VL2 in the bright parts is measured, and after an arithmetic operation is so made as to apply +100V to this VL2, a DC developing bias circuit 20 is driven to superpose AC bias further to this, value, which is applied on a developing roller 5.
