Abstract
PURPOSE:To coaxially put a glass rod in a glass tube different from the rod in light refractive index without damaging the rod close to the tube by attaching centering spacers each supporting the rod to the rod and the tube. CONSTITUTION:An end 4 of a glss tube 2 and an end 6 of a glass rod 3 are grasped with devices 5, 7, respectively. A female centering spacer 9 having a tapered hole 12 reduced in diameter from a larger inside diameter than the diameter of the rod to a smaller inside diameter in the direction 11 at the opposite side to a rod end 10 is inserted in the tube end 2. On the other hand, a male centering spacer 14 having a tapered face increased in diameter from a smaller outside diameter than the inside diameter of the tube to a larger outside diameter in the reverse direction to the direction 11 at the opposite side to a tube end 13 is attached to a part close to the grasped rod part. By moving the device 7 in the direction 11, the rod 3 is put in the tube 2. At this time, the rod ends 10, 6 are guided to coaxial positions to the tube 2 with the hole 12 and the spacer 14, respectively. The tube 2 and the rod 3 are then softened by heating while rotating, and the tube 2 is reduced in diameter and united with the rod 3.
