Abstract

PURPOSE:To realize the measurement of speed for a travelling object in a low speed and in a short interval of measurement, by projecting a beam turning opposite to the moving direction of a travelling object to the travelling object and detecting the reflected beam of the object. CONSTITUTION:A beams 3 having plural characteristic images of projection are projected at a time to an object 1 having parallel faces in its travelling direction through the side of the object 1 and by means of a projector 2. These beams 3 turn opposite to the travelling direction of the object 1, and accordingly plural characteristic images travelling opposite to the travelling direction of the object 1 are projected successively onto the object 1. The reflected beam 4 is received at a receiver 5, and the features of the proejcted images are extracted by a signal detector 6. The angle theta which is formed by a straight line connecting the tips of the projector 2 and the object 1 and a vertical line onto the face of the object 1 is obtained from the speed of revolution of the beam 3 and the time required from the reference position of the beam to the detection and by an angle operator 7. The position S of the object 1 is obtained from the angle theta plus the distance l between the object 1 and the projector 2 and by a position operator 8. Then the speed is obtained from the present and preceding position signals and a speed operator 12.
