Abstract

PURPOSE: To make possible to detect travelling speed without contact by installing plural gap detectors in the travelling direction of a vehicle and calculating from a time difference between pulses which occur in the gap detectors when the vehicle passes a rail joint and the distance between the detectors.
CONSTITUTION: When a vehicle 5 travels and gap detectors 7 and 8 pass a joint 1a of a rail, respective gap length signals A and B are generated. A travelling speed V is calculated 10 from these gap length signals A and B and the distance between the gap detectors 7 and 8.
