Abstract
PURPOSE:To reduce the rate of bulging and improve casting performance by pressurizing molten steel, with an inert gas supplying the same alternately from a pair of tundishes, and drawing the same continuously through a drawing port. CONSTITUTION:With gate mechanisms 11, 12 held closed, molten steel M is charged from a ladle 23 into one tundish 7, and the tundish is hermetically sealed with a cover body 7a, thence pressing mechanisms 17, 18 are operated to connect a gas supply pipe 15 to a gas supply passage 7b. A dummy bar 25 is beforehand inserted into a drawing port 3, and a gate mechanism 11 is opened to supply an inert gas through the pipe 15 by which the molten steel M is fed into a molten steel well 1 while it is pressurized with the inert gas. The molten steel entering the port 3 from the well 1 is cooled and is integrated with a dummy bar 25. This bar 25 is drawn gradually with pinch rolls 6. During this time, the molten steel M is charged into the other tundish from a ladle 24 conveyed by a swing tower 22, and the tundish is hermetically sealed.
