PURPOSE:To obtain multi-grooved billets having no surface flaws by applying screw-down in the width direction of a blank material during or prior to rolling of the blank material bloom with rolls. CONSTITUTION:A blank material 20 of a rectangular section is formed and rolled to multi-grooved billets connected with four pieces of billets with each other with rolls having passes 19, 19'. The width B of the material 20 is such that it does not go wider than the width W of the passes 19, 19' when rolled at the 1st pass. The material 20a provided with grooves 26 by the projecting parts 25 of the passes 19, 19' is rotated 90 deg. and is screwed down in the width B direction by the box passes 27, 27' recessed at the bottom faces of the passes in an arc shape.
