Abstract

PURPOSE:To raise a utilization rate of a memory, by storing a data by use of the head address of a track, and the next block address of each block, in a track buffer memory system of a variable length magnetic disk device. CONSTITUTION:A track buffer 5 is divided into plural blocks, a block address corresponding to the head of the track is designated by use of the number of blocks required for each track, other blocks designate the next block address to each block, and a data is chained. When plural chained blocks are collected, a continuous area of the track is formed. Accordingly, an unused area becomes <=1 block length irrespective of whether the code length is long or short, and the utilization rate of a memory is raised.
