Abstract
PURPOSE:To provide a friction material for brake, which has excellent frictional characteristics, rust resistance and Young's modulus in compression and in which squeak during braking is low, by using unreduced atomized iron powder, steel fiber, graphite and a binder resin as main components. CONSTITUTION:A friction material contains 5-45vol% unreduced atomized iron powder, 5-50vol% steel fiber, 20-40vol% graphite and 10-35vol% binder resin as main components. Impact strength is increased with an increase in the vol% of steel fiber. In order to obtain the desired impact strength, the amount of steel fiber must be at least 5vol%. When the amount of steel fiber exceeds 50vol%, friction coefficient is too increased to keep balance in friction performance. Thus, the amount of 40vol% or lower is preferred. The pref. amount unreduced atomized iron powder is 7-40vol%. In this range, there can be obtd. a friction material exhibiting better characteristics.
