Abstract
PURPOSE: To provide an engine utilizing reformed alcohol gas, in which temperatures on the upstream and downstream sides of a fuel reforming device disposed in an exhaust pipe are detected and a signal indicating leakage of reformed gas is produced for actuating an alarm means and stopping fuel supply to the engine when the difference between the above two temperatures detected is smaller than a predetermined value.
CONSTITUTION: A fuel reforming device 1 for reforming alcohol into gas fuel is arranged in an exhaust pipe 3, and temperature detectors 11, 12 are disposed also in the exhaust pipe 3 at the parts thereby located respectively on the upstream and downstream sides of the reforming device 1. Output signals of these temperature detectors 11, 12 are furnished to a control means 13, which produces a signal indicating leakage of reformed gas when it is detected from the output signals of the temperature detectors 11, 12 that the temperature of exhaust ga on the upstream side is within a predetermined range and that the difference between the upstream and downstream temperatures of exhaust gas is smaller than a predetermined value. Further, the control means 13 is connected electrically to a shut-off valve 14 disposed in an alcohol fuel passage and safety means such as an alarm 15 disposed in a cabin of a vehicle, so that the valve 14 and alarm 15 are actuated for stopping fuel supply when the signal indicating leakage of gas is produced.
