Abstract

PURPOSE: To stabilize the coefft. of friction at all times and to reduce the abrasion loss by impregnating a prescribed amount of phenol resin into a sintered alloy layer of copper alloy powder formed on the surface of a metallic matrix body.
CONSTITUTION: A powder layer is formed on the circular side of a metallic matrix body 3 by spreading copper alloy powder 4 such as LBC3 lead bronze powder and by sintering the the powder 4 in a sintering furnace as it is, the 4 is bonded to each other and to the body 3. This sintered alloy layer 5 is then impregnated with 30W60vol% phenol resin to obtain a friction material having a suitable coefft. of friction and a small abrasion loss. The coefft. of friction is stable at all times independetly of temp. and surface pressure.
