Abstract
PURPOSE: To provide the composite material having excellent wear resistance and high strength, by bonding an iron sintered alloy with iron base matrix through the diffusion of an infiltrating agent different from the two materials to an extent as does not reach the surface of the sintered alloy.
CONSTITUTION: The iron sintered alloy 2 is bonded with the iron base matrix 3 for obtaining such material requiring high wear and pitching resistances as a can shaft that slides violently. A bonding part 23 between the both is bonded through the diffusion of the infiltrating agent 4 different from the alloy 2 and the matrix 3, and the infiltrating agent 4 forms a diffusion layer 42 filling in holes in the alloy. The depth of the layer 42 is within the range of 40W95% the distance from the bonding part 23 to the surface of the alloy 2. When the depth is over 95%, the oil retention and surface treatment effect of the sintered alloy are reduced, and when under 40%, the strength and strength upgrading effect due to filling up the holls of the sintered alloy are reduced. The composite material is prepared by placing the Cu-Co-Zn containing infiltrating agent in an amount determined in advance between the iron base matrix 3 and e.g. the green compact 20 of iron or iron alloy and sintering them in a body.
