Abstract
PURPOSE: To lay an exhaust pipe and an intake pipe in small length without overstraining them, by placing an exhaust turbine at the front end of a turbo-shaft extending through the central part of a cylinder block in the front-to-rear direction and by placing a compressor impeller at the rear end of the turbo-shaft.
CONSTITUTION: A turbo-shaft 2 is provided so that it extends through the central part of the cylinder block 1 of a multicylinder engine in the front-to-rear direction. The turbo-shaft 2 is rotatably supported by bearings 3 on the cylinder block 1. An exhaust turbine 4 is coupled to the front end of the turbo-shaft 2. An exhaust pipe 6 is connected to the casing 5 of the exhaust turbine 4. A compressor impeller 7 is coupled to the rear end of the turbo-shaft 2. An intake pipe 9 is connected to a compressor casing 8.
