This projected light is received by a light receiving part 16 arranged in the opposite side of a light projection part 13, and sent to a light receiver 17 through optical fiber 15. In the light receiver 17, a difference in the intensity takes place depending upon the presence of the mercury column in the thermometer and whether the mercury column reaches to a measuring point or not is decided by a deciding part 19.
