Abstract

PURPOSE: To make the prevention of the breakdown of a steel strip possible by using the 2nd intermediate driving rolls of roughened initial surface roughness in cold rolling of a stainless steel strip with 20-stage Sendzimir rolling mills.
CONSTITUTION: In cold rolling of a stainless steel strip S with 20-stage Sendzimir rolling mills, the initial surface roughness of the 2nd intermediate driving rolls 3 is set ≥0.8μ (Ra) up to 1.6μ (Ra). If the roughness of the rolls 3 is increased in this way, the generation of slips between said rolls and the 1st intermediate driving rolls 2 is obviated and the breakdown of the strip S is prevented. Hence, the possibility of damaging work rolls 1, the rolls 2, the rolls 3, the 2nd intermediate idler rolls 4, and backing bearings 5 in accordance with the breakdown of the steel strip is eliminated and this is helpful for improvement in productivity.
