Abstract

PURPOSE:To improve the preservability and the leak resistance of an alkaline cell by using a separator consisting of a sheet of base paper soaked or coated with a bridge type copolymer of isobutane and maleic anhydride. CONSTITUTION:A positive electrode agent 4 of maganese dioxide is stuffed into the inner wall of a metal container 5 which serves as a positive electrode terminal, and a gel-like negative electrode agent 6 is contained inside it being divided by a separator 3. A sealing plate 8, which serves as a negative electrode terminal and is connected to an electricity collector 9, is attached to the metal container 5 through an insulating packing 7. An opening section 11 of the metal container 5 is bent inside and sealed to shape a cylindrical alkaline maganese dry cell. For this separator 3, a sheet of base paper 1 made of nylon or the like is used, which is coated or soaked with an aqueous solution of a bridge type copolymer powder of isobutane and maleic anhydride to form a paste layer 2. It is proper to form this paste layer 2 by coating or soaking with a polymer of 0.1 to 10 grams per 1 square meter.
