Abstract
PURPOSE: To increase physical strength and allow a titled anode to exhibit the outstanding characteristics of a lead dioxide electrode of high corrosion resistance most satisfactorily by interposing a specific intermediate coating layer in coating a conductive porous metallic base material with a lead dioxide electrode layer.
CONSTITUTION: A lead dioxide electrode layer 6 is coated on the outside surface 4 of a porous metallic base material 1 as well as the circumferential edge 3A of the opening parts 3 of pores. An intermediate coating layer 5 consisting of a metal or metallic oxide interposes between said electrode layer 6 and the base material 1. This layer 5 is coated not only on the outside surface 4 and the circumferential edge 3A but in some cases the inside wall surface 2A of the pores as well. Ti or Ti alloy is used for the base material 1. Platinum group metals or their oxides are chiefly used for the layer 5. This electrode is suited for generation of oxygen by water electrolysis in an aqueous acidic soln.
