Abstract

PURPOSE:To obtain a solid-state image pickup device having a super high sensitivity, by unifying both a proximity type image intensifier and a solid-state video element to one body via a fiber plate. CONSTITUTION:A photoelectric film 12 is formed on a glass substrate 11, a fluorescent film 13 is formed on a fiber plate (FP) 14, both of them are opposed in parallel at a small space, electrode terminals 17, 18 are connected to each, and the glass substrate 11 and the FP14 are sealed by use of a vacuum vessel. On a photosensitive surface of a CCD16, for instance, the second FP15 is fixed, and also the FPs 14 and 15 are made to closely adhere to each other and are fixed. High voltage is applied between the electrode terminals 17, 18, a photoelectron which has been emitted from the photoelectric film 12 is accelerated so as to reach onto the fluorescent film 13. An optical image on this fluorescent film 13 is transferred onto the photosensitive surface of the CCD16 through the FPs 14, 15, and photoelectric conversion is executed again.
