Abstract
PURPOSE: To prepare the titled elastomer having excellent heat resistance, weather resistance, aging resistance, elasticity, and slippery, and suitable for the polishing of contact lens, by forming powder of rubbery elastomer to spongy aggregate using a curable organopolysiloxane as a binder.
CONSTITUTION: For example, (A) 100pts.wt. of rubbery elastomer powder (pref. having a particle size distribution of within 0.1W3mm) obtained by crushing the waste synthetic rubber, etc. is compounded with (B) 30W100pts.wt. of a liquid composition of a curable organopolysiloxane (e.g. RTV rubber) as a binder. The compounding is carried out by mixing with a kneader or by spraying the component (B) to the component (A). The mixture is placed in a mold, and cured by heating at 50W250°C pref. under pressure to obtain the objective spongy elastomer.
USE: It is also useful as a breathable plug of the vessel for culturing microorganisms, a raw material of heat-resistant sheet, etc.
