PURPOSE:To reduce the number of interruption to a CPU and to increase the processing speed, by providing an automatic seek bit to a task word and controlling the independent operations of the seek, read, write, etc. that control an input/output device in the form of a consecutive action. CONSTITUTION:A task work meaning the read and obtained by setting an automatic seek bit to a task word to control a magnetic disk device 3 is received at an input/output controller 2 from a CPU1. Thus the controller 2 selects the device 3 which is designated by the constitution control word of one side. After this, a seek command is sent to the device 3 to shift the arm of a heat to a cylinder which is designated by the constitution control word of the other side to wait for the end of the seeking action of the device 3. When the device 3 finishes the seek action, a head designated by a constitution word is selected to read the data of a sector designated by a constitution word. The device 3 is cut off when the reading of the data is over, and an interruption is given to the CPU1 to complete an operation.
