Abstract
PURPOSE:To obtain a nearly uniform reproduction output over the entire area by varying the movement distance of a carriage according to areas by differentiating between recording and reproduction at an internal and an external circumferential area. CONSTITUTION:In an internal circumferential area 10 on the surface of a magnetic disk 3, track width 6 and track pitch 7 are both increased. In an external circumferential area 11, on the other hand, track width 8 and track pitch 9 are both decreased. In the area of a servo disk 13 which corresponds to a servo core 12 mounted on a guide arm 14, pitch servo information equal to the pitch 7 is written, and in the area of the servo disk 13 which corresponds to a servo core 12', pitch servo information equal to the pitch 9 is written. When tracks in the internal and external circumferential areas are seeked for by data cores 2 and 2', the movement of a carriage 4 is controlled by signals from the servo cores 12 and 12'.
