Abstract

PURPOSE:To improve a seek error rate and the stability of signal quality by reproducing a less-noise position signal, by inserting a digital filter, which can sweep a cut-off frequency according to a speed, into a position signal reproducing circuit. CONSTITUTION:Previously recorded position information is detected 1 and 2 and a group of magnetic heads is positioned on a data track on a magnetic disk. In this case, a digital filter DF13 is provided which varies in cut-off frequency stepwise according to the moving speed of the head group. Then, after the moving speed signal of the head group is A/D-converted 12, the contents of an ROM contained in the DF13 are read out and the coefficient of the DF13 is varied to control the cut- off frequency, so that the resulting information supplied to the DF13 is reproduced as a position signal.
