Abstract

PURPOSE:To control the position of a tape in the width direction by an actuator connected to the base end of a movable material, by bringing one side edge of the tape into contact with the reference face, which is formed in the end face of the movable material, to guide the tape. CONSTITUTION:Magnetic tape 2 is kept in the noncontacted state from drum 20 by the wind pressure caused by rotation of rotary head drum 20. A specific magnetic head is selected by the head selecting circuit incorporated in roatry head drum 20, and data is recorded and reproduced on the recording track of magnetic tape 2 corresponding to said head. Magnetic head 22a reproduces the positioning signal recorded on tape 2 and detects a positional slippage of the tape for the magnetic head through rotary transformer 24 by recording and reproducing circuit 25 and generates an output signal corresponding to the positional slippage quantity. This output signal is input to servo circuit 27, and movable material 4 is driven by actuator 6 so as to make positional slippage zero by servo circuit 27.
