Abstract

PURPOSE: To make it possible to code easily a Japanese document, etc., in which "kanji" (Chinese character) is mixed, by displaying characters complex in shape such as "kanji" and specific characters on a display part and then by inputting retrieval information from an input operation part on the basis of those display characters.

CONSTITUTION: Through character read part 21, control part 22, character memory part 23 and coding part 24, "kanna" (Japanese syllabary), numbers and alphabets simple in type are coded automatically. With regard to "kanji" complex in type, the type of a read character is displayed on character display part 25. By taking a look at the display, an operator decides the character and inputs from input operation part 26 information for retrieving the character in memory part 23. On the basis of the retrieval information, control part 22 finds a corresponding character in memory part 23 and coding part 24 converts it into the character code of the corresponding character. The retrieval information should be "furigana" ("kana" letters of the Japanese phonetic syllabary printed at the side of ideographs), the number of strokes in "kanji", etc., of a Chinese compound work including "kanji". Consequently, the document of a mixed writing of "kanji" with "kana" can be coded at a high speed.
