Abstract
PURPOSE:To fabricate a vane which is light in weight and excellent in mechanical strength, antiwear, resistance to heat, dimensional stability, etc. by using vitreous carbon having a density within a specific range. CONSTITUTION:Vanes composed of vitreous carbon whose density is within 1.0- 1.6g/cm<3> are used. A vitreous carbon composite material composed of matrix carbon and fibrous reinforcing carbon is formulated by firing a resinous composition consisting of 30-90wt% of hardened novolak fibers and 10-70wt% of phenol resin at a temperature of 800 deg.C or higher under nonoxidizing atmosphere to carbonize the same. This facilitates to obtain vans which are light in weight and excellent in mechanical strength, antiwear, resistance to heat, dimensional stability, etc.
