CONSTITUTION: A mutant that belongs to Bacillus and is sensitive to a surfactant and capable of producing ribonucleic acid such as Bacillus subtilis N-32 (FERM- P5335) is inoculated to a liquid culture medium containing a carbon source, a nitrogen source, inorganic salts, when necessary, trace amounts of organic nourishment and cultured at a pH of 5.0W9.0 and 25W40°c for 2W7 days. The cells are removed from the culture mixture and the ribonucleic acid is extracted with phenol, then sodium acetate and cold ethanol are added to the extract to precipitate the ribonucleic acid.
