Abstract

PURPOSE:To obtain a thin-film magnetic head which produces a good-quality recording magnetic field with a high recording efficiency, by providing the magnetic substance layers of highly magnetic permeability adjacent to each other on the opposing surface of a recording medium and nearly right-angled to the forming surface of a thin-film magnetic pole and outside of the gap. CONSTITUTION:The gap G is formed in such way that the dielectric layer 5 is held between te thin-film magnetic substance layers 2 and 3 of highly magnetic permeability, via the nonmagnetic layers 4 and 4'. In addition, other substances 2 and 3 are provided in adjacent to each other via the nonmagnetic layers 4'', 4'' '', and 4'', respectively and nearly right-angled to the forming surface of the thin-film magnetic pole. The magnetic fields 8 and 8' adversely set to the magnetic field 7 corresponding to the recording current I and caused near the outer edge of the substances 2 and 3 by the current I and absorbed to the magnetic substance layers 11 and 12 of highly magnetic permeability. As a result, the sags 10 and 10' which are adverse to the recording direction are reduced for the X component (Hx) of the recording magnetic field, thus obtaining a high-quality recording magnetic field.
