Abstract

PURPOSE: To provide alkali-proof glass having very superior alkali resistance and a restricted composition contg. SrO, BaO, SiO2 and TiO2 and suitable for use as a material especially for cement reinforcing glass fiber and strong alkali container.
CONSTITUTION: This alkali-proof glass is characterized by the 15W40mol% SrO+ BaO content, the 15W45mol% SiO2 content, the 25W55mol% TiO2 content and the at least 85mol% SrO+BaO+SiO2+TiO2 content. Since this glass contains SrO, BaO and TiO2, in large quantitites, which are hard to elute in an aqueous alakli soln., it shows very superior alkali resistance, and such an adequate amount of SiO2 makes the glass easy to convert into fiber.
