Abstract

PURPOSE:The titled external preparation having improved skin whitening effect, safety, and good feeling in use, obtained by extracting crude drugs, e.g., Angelica root, Angelica glabra Makino root, Cnidium, and/or Angelicae Dahuricae Radix, with an aqueous alcohol, extracting the extracted matrials with a polar solvent, e.g., ether, etc. to give purified extracted materials, followed by blending them with an external preparation for skin whitening. CONSTITUTION:One or more crude drugs selected from the groups consisting of Angelica root, Angelica glabra Makino root, Cnidium, Angelicae Dahuricae Radix, Japanese angelica root, Seseli, Glehniae Rhizoma, Nothosmyrnium japonicum Miguel root, Peucedanum, Bupleurun root, and Cuscuta seed are extracted with an aqueous alcohol, to give crude extracted materials, which is, if necessay, suspended into water, and extracted with a polar solvent selected from the group consisting of an ether, ester, ketone and alcohol to give purified extracted materials. Preferably, the crude extracted materials are suspended in water, extracted with a nonhydrophilic polar solvent, and before or after the extraction the extracted materials are cleaned with the nonhydrophylic polar solvent. An external preparation for skin whitening blended with the purified extracted materials has improved skin whitening effects, high safety, and good feeling in use.
