Abstract

NEW MATERIAL:Cynanchogenin glycoside of the formula.
USE: An immune enhancing agent.
PROCESS: The finely cut and dried root of cynanchum caudatum MAX. of the family Asclepiadaceae is macerated or digested with an organic solvent, e.g. an alcohol such as methanol or ethanol, or a halogenated hydrocarbon such as chloroform, to give a crude extract (E), which is defatted with pentane, hexane or cyclohexane, preferably hexane, in a volume of 4W5 times, preferably 4.5 times, that of (E) to form a crude glycoside. The resulting glycoside is then extracted with a mixed solvent of an aliphatic hydrocarbon, e.g. pentane, and an aromatic hydrocarbon, e.g. benzene, and the portion which is soluble in the organic solvent is fractionated by column chromatography, and if necessary collected by TLC to give the compound of the formula.
