Abstract

PURPOSE: To prepare a hollow fiber, having a high strength, and capable of giving a cloth stably and simply, by saponifying and deacetylating the surface layer of a cellulose ester fiber, and dissolving the cellulose ester in the interior of the fiber with a solvent to form a hollow structure.
CONSTITUTION: A cellulose ester fiber, e.g. a cellulose diacetate fiber, having a circular cross section is heated in an aqueous solution, e.g. sodium hydroxide, at about 80°C to saponify and deacetylate the surface layer thereof and give a fiber having a cellulosic surface layer. The fiber thus obtained is washed with water to remove the remaining sodium hydroxide, etc., and the cellulose ester in the interior of the fiber is dissolved and removed with a solvent, e.g. acetone, to give the aimed hollow fiber.
