Abstract

PURPOSE: To obtain a hot working tool steel having a long endurance life by adding specified elements to a medium carbon steel.
CONSTITUTION: A low alloy steel contg. 0.02W0.05% C, <1.0% Si, <1.50% Mn 0.50W3.0% Ni, 1.0W8.0% Cr, 0.30W2.0% W and 0.05W0.30% V is used as a hot working tool steel for a press piercing machine, a drawing machine, etc. among tools for manufacturing a seamless steel pipe. To the steel may be added one or more of <2.0% Mo, <2.0% Co and <1.50% Cu and/or one or more of <0.30% each of Nb, Ti, Ta and Zr. This steel has superior high temp. strength, scale adhesion and surface roughening resistance which are required when used as a hot working tool steel, and it has a long endurance life.
