Abstract

PURPOSE:To make possible continuous casting of molten steel by adding a scorification agent to molten iron, performing oxygen blowing, and performing deoxidation by the addition of Al after refining under stirring thereby regulating O, Al and Si contents. CONSTITUTION:The molten iron which has been subjected to preliminary treatment such as dephosphorization according to need is charged into a converter into which gas can be introduced from below the bath surface. Oxygen blowing is performed by adding <=20kg scorification agent for 1 ton of this molten iron. At a suitable time during oxygen blowing and after oxygen blowing, an inert gas is introduced from below the bath surface, whereby the refining under stirring is accomplished. After the refining under stirring, the steel is tapped from the converter into a ladle while the inclusion of converter slag is being suppressed. During and/or after the tapping, Al is added and deoxidation is carried out, whereby free oxygen is regulated to <=70ppm, total Al to <=0.020%, and Si to an unavoidable contant. Thereby, continuous casting is made possible and obtaining of an ingot corresponding to a rimmed steel free from any defect such as pinholes at high yields and high efficiency is made possible.
