Abstract
PURPOSE:To detect the abnormality during casting by affixing strain gages for stress measurement to a shaft for supporting a mold, and detecting the change in friction force between the solidified shell and the inside surface of the mold. CONSTITUTION:When continuous casting was carried in an abnormal state, for example, in the state that the tilting angle of the inside surface of a mold is too large, the friction resistance between a mold 9 and a solidified shell 8 increases. Hence, load is exerted to a shaft 4 for supporting the mold by as much as this increase, thus resulting in increased stress of the shaft 4 surface. The stress fluctuation signal (b) then forms a mold inside surface over-inclination waveform. A difference between the signal (b) and the signal (c) of a standard setting device 4 appears and the detection signal (d) showing the over-inclination is outputted from a comparator 13. Next, if this signal (d) is inputted to a control device not shown, from the terminal A, the tilting angle of the mold inside surface 9 may be corrected. This method is adaptable to existing installation without adding any change thereto at all.
