Abstract

PURPOSE: To obtain the titled polymer useful as a high-molecular flocculant, a dehydrating agent, etc., by the aqueous solution polymerization of acrylamide, acrylic acid (salt), etc., in the presence of a polymerization initiator and ethylenediamine.
CONSTITUTION: In the aqueous solution polymerization of at least a monomer selected from (meth)acrylamide, (meth)acrylic acid (salt), and an acidic salt or a quaternary compound from a dialkylaminoalkyl (meth)acrylate, the titled polymer is obtained by starting the polymerization at 0W30°C, in the presence of a polymerization initiator (e.g., a redox polymerization initiator comprising a combination of a persulfate such as ammonium persulfate and a water-soluble tertiary amine such as triethanolamine), with addition of 0.05W0.5wt%, preferably 0.1W 0.3wt%, based on the monomer, ethylenediamine as a crosslinking polymerization inhibitor, at a monomer concentration of 30wt% to saturation, and completing the polymerization at a low temperature ≤70°C, preferably ≤60°C.
