Abstract

NEW MATERIAL:2-Formyl-2-methylglutaronitile shown by the formula I.
USE: An intermediate for chemical products, drugs, and agricultural chemicals. Raw materials are obtainable at low cost.
PROCESS: 2-Methyleneglutaronitrile shown by the formula 3 is reacted with CO and H2 in the presence of rhodium catalyst, to give a compound shown by the formula 1. An amount of the catalsyt is preferably 1×10-6W1×10-1mol based on 1mol 2-methyleneglutaronitrile. A complex comprising phosphine, amine, olefin, etc. as a coordination source is preferable as the rhodium compound. For example, RhCl(CO)(PPh3)2, etc. may be cited. A tertiary phosphine may be preferably added to prevent the catalyst from decomposing and to reduce the reaction pressure. The reaction temperature is preferably 20W140°C to gain a reaction rate which can be carried out industrially.
