Abstract

PURPOSE:To produce patterned liquid crystal orientation films of high moisture resistance and stability with ease by coating a water-soluble polymer on the lead terminals and upper and lower conducting parts on electrode substrates then coating an org. solvent contg. organic metals thereon and drying the same. CONSTITUTION:Paste contg. a water-soluble polymer is coated on the shaded parts including the lead terminal parts 1 and upper, lower conducting parts 2 of electrode substrates by a screen printing method or the like and is then dried, whereby the films of the water-soluble polymer for mask are formed. Next, these are immersed in an org. solvent contg. organic metals and are pulled up at an equal speed. After they are dried, they are baked, whereby the orientation films of >=50Angstrom decomposed of organic silane and organic titanium or a mixture of both are formed. The above- mentioned water-soluble polymer for mask is removed by water or alkali, whereby the liquid crystal orientation films are produced.
