Abstract
PURPOSE:To obtain high brightness by specifying the axial direction of a hot cathode which uses a CaB6 type boride single crystal and selecting its angle of a cone within the specified range. CONSTITUTION:The axial direction [001], [011], and [111] of a hot cathode consisting of a boride single crystal of CaB6 type crystal structure are made to coincide with the direction of the crysral axis selected from those which are equivalent to afore-mentioned directions. The angle of a cone is selected to a range within 100 to 180 degree. This hot cathode shows high brightness at 1,450-1,600 deg.C.
