PURPOSE:To reduce a harmonic content in a wide range by controlling a unit inverter so that the both-side part of a rectangular wave whose width is larger by a prescribed angle than the width of 120 deg. is cut into a pulse form within the range of low-speed operation of an AC motor. CONSTITUTION:A plurality of unit current type inverters INV1 and INV2 are connected in parallel on the output side, the control pulse phases of the corresponding thyristors of each inverter are slided from each other, and thus resultant output current of multiple staged waveform is supplied to the motor M. Moreover, in the range of low-speed operation, each inverter is controlled so that both-side part of the rectangular wave whose width is larger by a pescribed angle than the width of 180 deg. is cut into a pulse form, while the prescribed angle of the sections cut into the pulde form is selected so that these sections are not overlapped. Accordingly, in the range of high-speed operation, by discontinuing the pulse-form cut automatically, the harmonic content is reduced in the wide range of frequencies and thereby the pulsation of torque can be reduced.
